About Spicy Qissah
Muhammad Umair
I grew up in Lahore, Pakistan. My house had two kitchens and three expert cooks. It was a joint family home right in the heart of Lahore where the city never sleeps. Street food aroma was in the air and fresh food was available 24/7. My mother, my chachi and Amma (grand mother) would prepare very rich and flavourful food and i had an option to either eat upstairs or downstairs. Being blessed with such nice food, i never had to worry about cooking.
Most of my professional career in Pakistan and abroad has been away from the magical aromatic food culture of my family home and the hustle and bustle of my beautiful neighbourhood. That is when i started re-creating food from my childhood memory. The aroma and taste memories of my Amma's (grandmother) and mothers food helped me create my recipes. They always used traditional processes and fresh ingredients. With Spicy Qissah, i will try my best to bring that richness, comfort and street food aroma to your kitchen.

I am from a small village in Cambridge. I lived in my family home with my parents and younger brother. During our childhood, the four of us only ate a vegetarian diet, which was mostly prepared by my mother. As a family, we visited India on several occasions and was inspired by the delicious cuisine and exotic spices. This led us to create many Asian style dishes in our Cambridgeshire home.
I met Umair in my early 20s (still vegetarian) 😉 and began to learn how to make outstanding Pakistani dishes. A short while later I was introduced to Chicken Karahi and I can honestly say, the vegetarian days are now a far memory! Wow, now I truly know what food is meant to taste like. It’s fair to say I have a true passion for cooking and eating real authentic food. I am very excited to be able to pass my story and recipes onto you.
